Starlight appeared white and bright behind the dark headland.

In my drawings and paintings I explore the constantly changing nature of the land sea and sky throughout the day and into the night. The east coast of Te Tai Tokerau and in particular Matapouri, connects me to my identity and sense of belonging.  This is the place where I share a close relationship to my personal family history and that of tangata whenua.  Starlight After Night Rain expresses the atmospheric effects of evening and night, the beauty of timelessness and the sense of what lies beyond our ability to directly perceive.  Kathryn Carter
