Our Story
Founded in July 2017 to champion Northland artists, MD Gallery remains the singular contemporary fine art dealer gallery in Whangārei, Northland, New Zealand. For the past six years we have proudly built an exemplar reputation for sourcing and stocking high quality artworks, whilst nuturing the valued relationships with our artists, collectors and the wider arts community.
On a regular rotation we exhibit work by emerging through to established artists in group and solo shows. To this day, we are proud to say that the majority of our artists are either from, living in, or have a strong connection to Tai Tokerau (Northland). March 2021 saw us become the first gallery from the Northland region to show at the prestigeous Auckland Art Fair, representing renowned artist duo Rosy & Rich.
In April 2023 we embarked on an exciting new venture, saying farewell to our bricks and mortar space in Rust Ave. This has enabled us flexibility with the ways in which we can bring art to you, operating in an appointment only capacity from our new base at 125 Cameron Street, Whangārei. Monthly exhibitions remain an integral part of MD Gallery, usually opening on the first Friday of each month accompanied by an open gallery weekend.
We provide a professional in-home and business art consultation service, supporting you by assessing, curating and installing your collections, as well as sourcing new works by your favourite artists. Our stockroom and collections are open for viewing at any time on this website and all available works can be viewed, purchased and dispatched to your door with ease.
About Megan Dickinson
Megan Dickinson has held a lifelong talent for curation. With a keen eye for detail, this skill naturally led her to artistic expression: in floral design, landscape design and art curation. Megan’s ability to create connections through placement and curation is not just talent, but a true passion. Early on in her career, Megan followed this passion to Europe, where an immersive education in floral design launched her into a successful fifteen-year career in the world of flowers – founding the Megan Dickinson Floral Design School, Auckland in early 2000. During this time she was a regular columnist for NZ Gardener Magazine, a guest lecturer and designer for the Ellerslie Flower Show, and the author of At Home With Flowers. Fulfilling a passion to study art, Megan graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Applied Arts (Visual) from North Tec, Whangārei. It was during this period that she further developed her talent for art curation, whilst immersing herself in painting, sculpture, printmaking, and photography. Megan has spent the last six years dedicated to building the MD Gallery community and supporting artists to achieve their goals.
