Collection: Tiki Tour - DR LEONIE NGAHUIA MANSBRIDGE
“TIKI TOUR was exhibited for my PhD examination at John Curtin Gallery, Perth, Australia in 2017. This is the first time the series has been shown in a gallery outside of Australia. The fact that this work is about to be shown in Aotearoa places these works where they belong, at a time of great significance. Matariki marks the beginning of the New Year, a special time to introduce myself to an audience at home in Aotearoa. Matariki is also a time of remembrance, acknowledging those ancestors who have passed and now return as stars. TIKI TOUR has it’s own re-collection, starting its journey as my creative investigation into belonging. It has an instinctive body of memory response to the experience of belonging, whilst being and traveling in my whenua (home). With me on this journey is my Granny, my wairua (spirit), my shadow, now a star.” Dr Leonie Ngahuia Mansbridge, June 2022.
