Collection: Things I Found Walking - DR MAGGIE BUXTON
Things I Found Walking by Dr Maggie Buxton, is a collection of images of botanical specimens found on her daily walks along Beach Road in Onerahi, Whangārei. The images document the cruel and altering process of pressing and drying away the plant’s life essence and then encasing them in bioplastic. (Bioplastics are plastic materials made from bio-matter, in this case, biodegradable agar, gelatine, glycerol, vinegar and tea tree oil.) As the biomatter dries, it becomes increasingly deformed, creating ethereal, translucent shapes. The images then become simulacra of the original botanicals rearticulated through trial, suffering and manipulation.
